Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is a one-on-one session with one of our clinicians. This is an effective way to address various mental health and emotional challenges. This is also known as talk therapy. A session of individual therapy can help manage symptoms that may have a negative impact on your daily function.
These are confidential, compassionate, non-judgmental sessions with a clinician who is professionally trained to address your concerns. If you are a dealing with a situation or condition that is causing you anger, conflict, grief, or stress, individual therapy gives you an opportunity to discuss and explore these issues candidly in a comfortable and private setting.
Individual therapy allows you to express your thoughts and emotions, evaluate and get feedback on your behavior patterns, work on solutions to help problem solve and resolve conflicts, and discuss your strengths and weaknesses. The number of sessions and frequency of appointments will be determined by goals, your needs and the recommendation of your clinician.
Couples and Family Therapy
Conflict in marriage and families is common. Conflict can be a healthy part of a relationship because it allows for partners and family members to address important issues. However, there are times when conflict can become seriously problematic.
At Houston Psychotherapists, we offer couples and family therapy where we work with you to address the issues that are straining your relationships.
In couples or marriage counseling, we can address issues such as
- Communication problems
- Sexual issues
- Traumatic loss
- Infidelity
- Cultural differences
- Family conflicts
- Substance abuse
- Anger and stress
- Co-parenting (even when separated)
Our clinicians are trained professionals who focus on applying techniques that will improve communication, build understanding, and ultimately strengthen relationships.
Group Therapy
Group therapy is a form of psychosocial treatment where a small group of patients meet regularly to talk, interact and discuss problems with each other and the group facilitator (a therapist).
Group therapy gives individuals a safe and comfortable place where they can work out problems and emotional issues. Clients gain insight into their own thoughts and behavior and offer suggestions and support to others. In addition, patients who have a difficult time with interpersonal relationships (particularly those with social anxiety) can benefit from the social interactions that are a basic part of the group therapy experience.
Group therapy is an integral part of Houston Psychotherapists’ Intensive Outpatient Program. In addition, Houston Psychotherapists is currently running or in the process of gathering interest for the following groups:
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a research-supported treatment for trauma. Based on the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, EMDR assumes that our brains have natural processes to recover from stressors. However, when those stressors are significant, trauma can get stored in maladaptive ways and may cause our nervous system to react in the present as though a past event is occurring now.

Children’s Psychological Assessment
Psychological assessments for children offer insights into a child’s development in the areas of learning ability, social skills, behaviors, and personality. This helps lay the groundwork for understanding a child’s mental health and educational needs.
As a parent, you may request a psychological assessment for your child if you notice that they are having issues with learning in school, conflicts with others and difficulty staying focused. An assessment will help you and your clinician identify your child’s strengths and weaknesses, gain an understanding as to what is affecting a child’s functioning, and develop a strategy to maximize your child’s abilities to help them reach their goals.
At Houston Psychotherapists, our clinicians are passionate about helping children and teens overcome obstacles and reach their full potential.
